The Shire of Donnybrook Balingup has successfully secured $25,000 in grant funding from the state government Department of Communities’ Attraction and Retention Packages for Regional Child Care Workers Program 2024 (the Program).

The Shire is thrilled to announce that a grant has been secured from the Department of Communities to develop an attraction and retention package for child care workers in the region, as a part of the state government’s Program.

This grant will be instrumental in addressing the critical need for qualified child care professionals in the Shire district, with the funds directed towards helping local providers in creating comprehensive packages that support new and existing child care workers to unlock much needed child care placements.

The attraction and retention package aims to provide an accommodation subsidy, professional development opportunities, and travel allowances for child care workers, whilst also funding a promotional campaign to attract the right candidates.

Comments from Shire President Vivienne MacCarthy:

We are incredibly grateful for the support from the Department of Communities. This grant will allow us to develop a program that makes our Shire a highly attractive place for child care workers to live, and provides much-needed support for our local families.

A strong and well-resourced child care sector is essential for our community. By investing in our child care workforce, we can ensure that all families in the district have access to high-quality child care. It is key to unlocking a labour force that will be an economic enabler for the Shire.
