UPPER CAPEL ROAD BRIDGE (ongoing since November 2023)

• Replacement of Bridge 3275 on Upper Capel Rd began as proposed in November 2023. Road closures will be in place at the Upper Capel Rd Bridge for a period of up to six (6) months from the start date, and are anticipated to be removed early June.

DONNYBROOK & BALINGUP TOWNSITES 

• With Autumn comes more fallen leaves, requiring additional sweeping of our townsites. Shire staff and contractors will be undertaking these works during Autumn and Winter months.

MAINTENANCE GRADING

• Due to the prolonged dry season, Summer Maintenance Grading will be ongoing. Please note that this is typically done to remove corrugations and improve the running surface by pushing gravel off the middle section of road - however, this is only ever partially successful. This is due to the lack of moisture in the gravel, and is not good for the overall integrity of our gravel roads. As such, some areas may be ungraded as with insufficient moisture, gravel loosens harder sections of the roads and cannot be recompacted until Winter Grading is done (following suitable rain events).

Hours of operation are typically between 7:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. Works will be clearly signed, and we request tat you exercise due care when travelling near or through the designated areas. Delays are expected to be minimal.

The Restricted Burning Period has been extended until midnight 10 May 2024. The following notice was published on Tuesday 16 April, 2024:

The Shire of Donnybrook Balingup wishes to advise the public of an Extension of Restricted Burning Period.

Section 18 of the Bush Fires Act 1954 (As Amended)

Due to seasonal conditions, and in consultation with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, notice is hereby given pursuant to Section 18 of the Bush Fires Act 1954 (as amended), the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup has extended its Restricted Burning Period until midnight 10 May 2024.

Further variations to this date may apply dependent on weather conditions.

As we are in the Restricted Burning Period, you are not permitted to burn without a Fire Permit.

Permits can be obtained through your local Fire Control Officer listed in the Fire Break Order sent with your Rates notices, or alternatively it can be found on the Shire website. If the FCO is unavailable, please reach out to the Shire and ask to speak to the Community Emergency Services Manager or the Ranger.

Fire prevention measures must be completed, and all properties cleared of fire hazards before 1 December each year to reduce the risk of fires during the bushfire season. Shire Rangers commence annual property inspections on 1 December to ensure they comply with Council’s Fire Break Order. Fire breaks shall be 2m wide constructed to a mineral earth standard free of all flammable material and maintained throughout the entire compliance period.

Please be aware that, due to the impact of smoke, burning is still prohibited on land under 2000 m2.

Remember - lighting a fire is prohibited on any day where the Fire Danger Forecast is High or above, or if a Total Fire Ban has been declared. As these dates are subject to change, please check with the Shire prior to lighting any fires.

We want everyone to be prepared for an emergency, whether it’s a fire, flood or other crisis. Too many conversations after an emergency begin with “I wish I had…” People wish they’d taken the kids’ baby photographs, kept their passports safe, upped their insurance, or checked in with their neighbours. It’s these conversations that drive us to empower everyone in our community to prepare.
